What Does BDSM Mean?

If you and your lover have been looking for new sex toys, you’ve probably run across ones that are recommended for BDSM play. BDSM is a three-part acronym. It s?tands for Bondage and Discipline, Domination and Submission, and Sadomasochism. These are actually three types of closely related forms of sexual play that, while they do share that close relationship, are different.

Bondage and discipline don’t necessarily have to go hand-in-hand, despite what the acronym would imply. Some couples who experiment with bondage play don’t have any element of playful punishment involved in it; no one has been “bad”, for instance. In such cases, vulnerability is usually what the couple is looking for. Domination and submission is a power dynamic between a couple wherein one assumes the role of demanding and the other assumes the role of accommodating. This is a very common form of sexual play that exists in many different levels of intensity. Sadomasochism specifically describes people getting pleasure from inflicting consensual and sane levels of pain – a sexual sadist – and a person who enjoys receiving it – a sexual masochist.

All of these forms of play have in common that they are all consensual. The site Xeromag gives more detailed information on this area of human sexuality
